We've Got The County Covered
The Chinook Sugarbeeters have developed a habit of spotting teams big first quarter leads. They have battled back in previous contest to either tie the game at some point or win it at the end.
Friday during the 'Beeters Homecoming contest with the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans two quick turnovers allowed the visitors to take a 18-0 lead midway through the opening stanza and cruise to a 34-0 shutout of Chinook.
The Titans took a 26-0 lead at the halfway point of the second quarter.
Chinook's defense began to settle down and gain some composure over the final six minutes of the first half.
Chinook held the Titans on three consecutive possessions forcing turnover on downs each time.
The 'Beeters would stand tall near the goal line in the final seconds of the half. The titans ran 10 plays inside the red zone and failed to come away with points.
Chinooks defense continued to play well throughout the second half, allowing just a fourth quarter score late in the contest.
Senior Kyler Johnson spearheaded the defensive effort, along with sophomores Chase Moxley, Ross Reed and Karson Powell. All the 'Beeter defenders competed hard but Johnson seemed to have his helmet in every play.
Seniors Michael Warburton and Franklin NezPerce made a number of stops in the backfield of the Titans in the contest.
The offense struggled but the effort of senior running back Tate Niederegger was impressive. With a defense that keyed on him every snap, he ran hard, twisting, turning and diving for every yard he could. Junior quarterback Steven Mulonet made some plays with his feet and competed very well.
Chinook will hit the road this Friday for a contest in Chester against the Hawks.
