Turner Tornado girls, boys set to tip off the season in Glasgow this weekend at Class C Showcase

The Turner Tornado girls and boys basketball teams will head to Glasgow this weekend to take part in the Class C Showcase as the 2016-17 basketball season gets underway.

Head coach Jen Baird will lead the girls for the second season. The girls will open play Friday afternoon against Frazer with tip-off set for 3 p.m. Saturday they will play Nashua/Opheim at 4:30.

Zach Holland will move one seat down the bench as he assumes head coaching duties this winter after being an assistant to the boys team a season ago.

The boys open play Friday morning against Nashua with 10:30 a.m start time. Saturday they will challenge North Country at 9:00 a.m.

Returning for the girls is two time District 9C All-Conference selection senior Ella Billmayer. Billmayer along with fellow senior Rennay Watkins will be starting for the Tornadoes for their fifth season of varsity ball having been with the program since eighth grade. Also back for the Turner girls will be sophomores Raegan and Rylee Conlan as well as Melanie Watkins.

Freshman Sarah Billmayer started as an eighth grader and will contribute along with eighth graders Alaynee Hawley, Brandy Calvert and Shyan Krass.

The boys will be led by led by junior Eddie Harmon. Harmon had a breakout season a year ago and will lead the team along with sophomores Cody Welsh and Tracer Heilig.

Senior Brian Brekke joins the Tornadoes for his first season with the school and will look to contribute.

Freshman Jack Harmon and eighth graders Austin Welsh, Ethan Heilig and Shane Kimmel round out the roster.

As far as what to expect this weekend, "The girls are rearing to go! We're ready to get the season underway and the Glasgow tourney is a great place to get started. Looking forward to seeing how we open the season," Said Baird. "It's a great tournament and an awesome way for the teams to kick off the season," added Holland.
