The library will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

We invite you to join the 2017 Reading Challenge! Read 52 (or more!) books this year and you will be entered into a drawing to win a fabulous gift basket which includes a $25 Visa gift card. To keep the incentive going throughout the year, for each month you read 4 books contact the library and you will have your name entered into a drawing for a $10 gift certificate to a local business. Good luck and happy reading!

Just a reminder, the library has available for check out a Native American Trunk which includes a large selection of books, animal puppets, animal track molds, and a black bear skull replica. This trunk is a great resource for elementary teachers, home schoolers, day care providers, and Head Start instructors. Contact the library for more information.

The regular meeting of the library board of trustees will be held Wednesday, Jan. 25, 4:15 P.M. in the library meeting room.

“Ashes of Fiery Weather” is a novel by Kathleen Donohoe. This debut novel takes readers from famine plagued Ireland to New York City a decade after 9/11 sharing the passionate loves and tragic losses of six generations of women in a firefighting family.

Gayle Forman has written “Leave Me.” Maribeth Klein is so absorbed in her duties as a working wife and mother she doesn’t realize she’s had a heart attack. When her recuperation causes her family a major imposition, she decides she’s had enough, and takes off. But once she is far from demands of family and career, Maribeth must face secrets she’s been keeping from herself and the ones she loves.

“Conclave” is written by Robert Harris. The Pope is dead. Cardinals from around the world will vote for the successor. These are holy men. These are also men of the world with rivals. In the next seventy-two hours one of them will become the most powerful spiritual figure in the world.

Armanda Lucas Correa brings to readers “The German Girl.” Based on a true story, this novel takes readers from Berlin at the brink of the WWII to Cuba on the cusp of revolution to New York after September 11 and back to present-day Havana. The families of young Hannah Rosenthal and her best friend Leo Martin escape Berlin on a luxury liner to Cuba. Seven decades later Anna Rosen receives a strange package from an unknown relative in Cuba, her great-aunt Hannah. A trip to Havana uncovers the family’s mysterious and tragic past.

“Victoria” by Daisy Goodwin is the story drawn from Queen Victoria’s own diaries. Eighteen-year-old Victoria is awakened to find her uncle has died and she is now Queen of England. Faced with doubters and those who wish to relieve her of her burden of power, Victoria proves to the world she is no puppet but is ready to make her mark on her nation and the world.

Other new titles include two mysteries “Glow of Death” by Jane K. Cleland and “Egg Drop Dead” by Laura Childs. “This Was A man” is the final volume of the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer. “Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis” is the latest of The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
