Chinook High School To Host State B/C Speech & Drama Tournament

Chinook High School is hosting the State B-C Speech & Drama tournament January 27-28. The two day tournament will be held on the campus of MSU-Northern. Over 350 student competitors from as many as 60 schools are expected to attend.

Competition rounds will be held Friday afternoon beginning at 1:30 p.m., and all day Saturday. Hundreds of volunteer judging hours are needed to make this event possible. Please consider volunteering an hour, an afternoon, a day or a weekend to help make this event successful.

Those who have judged at this level of competition typically express how impressed they were by the talent and abilities they saw. Oftentimes people are hesitant to judge if they haven’t done so before. Well, if you’ve ever watched a play, a television program or a movie for entertainment, you’re qualified!

If you’ve ever had any opinion about a candidate’s speech, you can do this! If you’ve ever listened to an audio book or radio program, you can handle judging! The student competitors and their coaches depend upon members of the host community to volunteer their time to make Speech & Drama tournaments possible.

Two judges’ workshops are scheduled to help volunteers familiarize themselves with both the process of Speech & Drama tournaments as well as with the different events offered.

Workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, January 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chinook High School auditorium and on Wednesday, January 26, at 5:30 p.m. in Hensler Auditorium in the ATC Building on the MSU-N campus. If you are willing to judge, you can sign up by going to https://facebook.com/state2017 and selecting the link to our judge sign-up form. The link will take no more than 5 minutes to complete. If you would like a direct link to the form please email Chinook’s Speech & Drama coach, Bonnie Ortner at ortnerb@chinookschools.org or call her at 357-2236 ext.232.
