We've Got The County Covered
The #2 ranked wrestler in NAIA with a record of 27 and 2 this year Ben Stroh, a four-time state champion for Chinook in high school, wrestled his last match at Northern’s Armory gym last Thursday against Dickinson State. Thursday was Senior night for the Lights as they had three seniors being recognized, Stroh being one of them. His last Hi-line match as a student athlete; Ben was victorious with a 6-4 win over his opponent. He moved up one weight class for this match. Ben, in keeping with his long outstanding career, recently won the Reno tournament of champions. He started his collegiate career following his brother Robert to the University of Wyoming; where he wrestled for his first four years. He is now finishing his collegiate year of wrestling as a Redshirt Senior year at MSU-Northern.
I have had the chance to meet and interact with Ben over the last couple of years after moving to Chinook and watching him give wrestling clinics at the Chinook High School. Ben, Robert, and a fellow Cowboy Wrestler took their time to come up from Laramie while they were wrestling there along with Willie Miller who was wrestling for Northern at the time. Ben has a natural ability to teach and communicate with the younger wrestlers. He is a great example and leader to those young growing wrestlers. It has been an honor to have been able to meet him and follow him these last couple of years.
He will finish his career as Northern competes at their last four meets before sending their team off for National Qualifiers in Redding California on February 20th. For those that qualify to move to the NAIA finals they will be wrestling in Topeka Kansas the 3rd and 4th of March.
