The Chinook High School Cheer Squad is under the direction of Head Coach Jerilyn Wood and has been growing in numbers over the years.

Near the end of the High School basketball season the squad has held a 'Cheer Camp' the past few years for youngsters grades K-6. Turnout has been very strong and attracts kids from all over Blaine County with the majority coming from Chinook, Turner and Harlem.

This years camp included nine cheerleaders and 44 campers. Youngsters were divided into three groups based on grade. Four cheerleaders worked with the Kindergarten and first grade, three with the third and fourth graders and two with the fifth and sixth grade.

Each camper received lunch, T-shirt bows and snacks. Expenses were covered by the campers fee with the remainder of the money being turned back into the Chinook cheerleading program to contribute to new mats, uniforms and maybe summer cheer camps according to Wood.

The campers performed during the Chinook Sugarbeeter versus Turner Tornado basketball game in the evening after a full day with the cheer squad performing a few select dance numbers, "Rio (Overcast) came up with the dance. It took her about six hours to plan out the whole routine. All the cheerleaders came together and created the cheer that all the campers did," stated senior Kelsey Mathon a member of the cheer squad.

The crowd was presented with a fine performance capping a perfect day of cheerleading for the campers.
