Hazel was born on March 7, 1921 in Nodaway, Iowa, to John and Bessie (Miller) Lacox. Early on, the family relocated to Hogeland, MT, where they homesteaded. Hazel attended Hogeland school, graduating from Hogeland High School in 1939.

Hazel married Fredrick Allen on November 23, 1940 in Hogeland, MT, and the couple made their home in that area for a short time. In 1941 Fred went to work for the USDA and they moved to Bozeman. Their oldest son Lanny was born there. Fred entered the U. S. Army in November 1943 and Hazel & Lanny returned to Hogeland, where she acted as the Hogeland Postmistress until Fred returned from the service in 1946. Upon discharge Fred returned to work at the USDA and the family moved to Havre, where their youngest son, Gene was born. Fred & Hazel owned and operated the Glacier Motel for about 9 years during the 50s and 60s. After they sold the motel, Hazel began working for the Hill County Assessor's office, where she remained until her retirement in the early 80s.

Hazel enjoyed knitting, dancing, traveling, spending time with family ... especially her beloved grandchildren, and loved her flowers. Her favorite pastime was playing dress-up with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. She spent many hours volunteering, and was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Hill County Democratic Party.

Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred in 1981; her parents John and Bessie Lacox; her sisters: Florence Snider, Floy Cannon, and Beverly Billings; her brothers Aaron and Dean Lacox; her grandson Jerry Donoven; and great-great-granddaughter Paisley Jo Donoven.

She is survived by her sons: Lanny (Roine) Allen of Phelan, CA and Gene (Gloria) Allen of Havre; her grandchildren: Johathan (Melanie) Allen of Hayward, CA, Tammy Allen (Hackman) of Phelan, CA, Joe (Mary Heller) Cartwright, Ron (Ingrid) Cartwright, Janine Donoven all of Havre, Michelle (John) Helmbrecht of Gildford, MT, Angela (Jason) Holden of Great Falls, Mt; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hazel spent the last 13 years at the NMCC SCU where she was lovingly cared for. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for all the tender loving care she received during her stay.
