We've Got The County Covered
In an expression of our gratitude, the 68th Montana Seed Show has chosen to dedicate this year’s show to the Blaine County 4-H and FFA members.
As the years have gone by, our committee members have grown older and wiser. Ask any of them how much work goes into setting up and taking down the Seed Show. We’re very fortunate to have these young volunteers willing to help us out.
Over the years, several 4-H clubs have participated in various events during the seed show. Whether it’s an educational display or a booth selling tickets for a fundraiser, its always been nice to see these young people working together for a common goal. The clubs in Blaine County include: Harlem Variety, Big Flat, White Pine, Valley Clovers, Paradise Pals, Bear Paw Buddies, and North Chinook Boosters.
The Chinook FFA chapter has been bringing different projects for several years. Whether it’s a wood working project or a custom metal work, they never disappoint. They like to inform the public of the work and research they’ve done.
The Harlem FFA chapter was chartered in 1949. Throughout the decades the chapter has been active in the Montana Seed Show. In 1975, the FFA members, along with Advisor Royal Westervelt, hosted a pancake supper during the Seed Show. Over 250 community members attended the first pancake supper.
Every year since, the pancake supper has been a popular activity with the community. The “secret” recipe was created by Nancy Westervelt and fine-tuned by Sharon Reed. Over the years the breakfast supper has evolved. The hog is no longer butchered and processed by students, the grain is not ground into flour by the flour mill in the classroom, and the grills have grown in considerable size from the early days of the supper. In addition, the Technology Student Association (TSA) students have now joined the FFA members in hosting the Pancake Supper.
In 2015, nearly 300 people attended the supper and enjoyed pancakes, sausage, and eggs. It’s one of their major fundraisers for the year. They also display the projects they have worked on through the year and really help the community during set up and tear down. For these and many other reasons we have chosen to dedicate our show. If you happen upon any of these individuals, please tell them thank you and that you appreciate them helping us out.
