Great entertainment, Great Bakers, Great 68th Seed Show

68th Montana Seed Show packs a ton of fun into three days of activities at Harlem High School

From the latest musical entertainment on television and in Nashville to pies and breads by some of the best bakers in the area, the Montana Seed Show provided plenty of fun, entertainment and activities for all ages. Despite a serious return of winter snow and wind, guests made the trek to the Harlem High School for the annual event. There was a wide array of commercial and non-commercial exhibitors, health screenings, lots of giveaway prizes, food and raffles of every color and stripe.

Veering slightly from the normal dedication of the show to one or two individuals, this year the organizing committee recognized the local 4-H and FFA members for their help, over the years, to stage the show. Chairman Paul Rasmussen also noted, “I hope these 4-H and FFA members will also be leading the Seed Show into the future.” A first ever “Beef Cook-off” drew eight entries on Thursday night and raves from guests who came to sample and judge the various dishes. Interest groups included new info about pulse crops and information about the growing national and regional problem of human trafficking.

And as always, lots of food—from candies and finger foods available at the exhibits to full-blown breakfasts and lunches in the commons area, pies and breads sold at auction and the banquet meal on Saturday night. Referring to the new Beef Cook-off event, organizers said, “We had eight entries and by the time guests sampled all eight dishes, they were stuffed.” If someone leaves the Seed Show hungry it’s their own fault.

At the conclusion of the Saturday evening banquet Chairman Paul Rasmussen thanked everyone for attending and said, “We’ll see you all again next year.” As the show pushes toward the seven-decade mark, it’s still something that locals, and out of town visitors, look forward to. The “Journal” thanks all the folks who worked so hard to stage another great Montana Seed Show.
