The Montana Historical Society is offering educators a free workshop on using Montana history to engage students in fun and interesting ways in other curriculums in the classroom.
The workshops will be in April in Lewistown, Glasgow, Chinook, and Cut Bank and are open to teachers in surrounding areas. The free workshops also carry six OPI renewal units for teachers.
The morning session involves “visual thinking strategies” using teacher led discussions of art images to teach ways to teach art through social studies and other subjects. Charlie Russell images and other power point lessons and teacher aides will be given to teachers who take the workshop.
The afternoon will introduce teachers to other ready to use lesson plans from MHS using hands on history footlockers and analyzing survey data to help them understand change over time.
The workshops will be led by Jim Schulz a nationally recognized history and science educator with over 30 years teaching experience. He has won numerous teacher awards including Disney American Teacher of the Year for Middle School in 2000.
