We've Got The County Covered
I am a happy man. It has taken a lot of years but finally my team, Gonzaga, got to the final game. I know they lost to North Carolina 71 to 65 but that did not matter at all. Those of you who read these rantings regularly know that for years I have picked my Zags to go all the way. They never have until now. And to think that Oregon was also in the final four! It boggles the mind. I may not live to see it but one day there is going to be a western final game. It is going to happen!
For now, I know of some who made huge amounts of money on betting on Calcutta’s in March Madness. Not me. My team got to the final game and I am so happy for that I cannot sleep at night even yet!
I was reading a news story last week about the NFL. It said that the new coach of the Atlanta Falcons has the toughest job in the NFL. He has to take a team that lost a Super Bowl in a terrible way and get them ready to win a Super Bowl and soon.
Dan Quinn is the new coach and I believe that his Falcons have never won a Super Bowl in their existence. Quinn comes from Seattle where his job was defensive coordinator when they were crushed by the Patriots a few years ago.
It is usually a difficult year for any team that has just lost a Super Bowl but this team cannot afford to adopt a loser attitude. They have a great quarterback and some very good players. They and Quinn must come out of the box this August knowing that they are going to the finals and going all the way!
I cannot believe what happened to Tony Romo. But I am glad it happened. It all started when the duo of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms split up. They were the best of the CBS commentators or they at least thought they were the best. Simms retired and that left Nance without a side kick.
Frankly I was very glad to see Simms go as I thought he was an arrogant horrible man who along with Nance knew everything about football and went into every game knowing who was going to win whether they won or not.
But the kicker of it all is that the Cowboys released quarterback Tony Romo and instead of looking for another quarterback job, which he could have found, he is going to take over as Jim Nantz’s sidekick in announcing games. Now that is hard to believe.
However, Nantz and Romo has to be better than Nance and Simms. Let’s hope so anyway!
That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Go Thunderbirds!
