We've Got The County Covered
Four members of the Chinook FFA Chapter took part in the Envirothon Competition in Bozeman recently. It was a first for the local chapter but one they would be willing to do again. Those attending were (l-r) Rielly Wiegand, Wylee Brown, Sierra Swank and Hailey McMaster.
Monday, April 24, Chinook chapter members departed early in the morning once again for another opportunity to learn and socialize in the form of a competition.
This particular competition, Envirothon, was a first-time for the Chinook Chapter that these courageous members: Hailey McMaster, Rielly Wiegand, Wylee Brown, and Sierra Swank, decided to take on with open minds.
This competition was open to FFA chapters and public school science classes. The first thing the competitors did was take tests on subjects of Forestry, Range, Aquatic Ecology, Wildlife, and Soils/Land Use. Then, after lunch MSU Bozeman staff presented the competitors with an oral problem, Agricultural Soil and Water Conservation.
Afterwards the members split up and went to separate stations that were for each of the different topics they were testing on in the morning.
Finally, the competitors were given three hours to create their own presentation that showed how to help conserve agricultural soil and water.
The next morning students gave their presentations to a panel of judges that chose the top three presentations to speak in front of all of the competitors. This was a competition that challenged our limits, expanded our minds, and still happened to be fun and enjoyable for us.
When asked, we all agreed that we would come back next year, and now that we have a concrete understanding of how the competition works, we will be prepared to excel in it.
