“Build a Better World” is the theme for the Summer Reading Program for children ages preschool through grade 6. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to have their children sign up at the library beginning May 30. Registration may also be done via email at harlemlib@live.com or on the library Facebook page.
The goals of the Summer Reading Program include developing literacy , keeping reading skills sharp over the summer vacation, and providing fun and information for the children. Children keep track of the books they read and earn prizes as they move up levels on the “Reading Skyscraper.” There are also programs each week during the months of June and July. The Read to Me programs are held Tuesdays at 10 A.M. for children ages 0-preschool who must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver. The Readers Club is for children who have completed kindergarten to students in grade 6 and meets Thursdays at 1 P.M. Grand prizes will be awarded at the completion of summer reading.
Summer Reading kicks off with Family Fun Night May 31, 6:30-8:00 P.M. Children and their families are invited to the library for an evening of stories, games, prizes and snacks! Registration for summer reading may be done this evening.
This year the library is offering an adult component as part of the Summer Reading Program. Adults may take part in the “Letter by Letter” game and earn a chance to win a $50 gift card. Stop by the library to pick up a game board and instructions beginning May 30.
Clifford the Big Red Dog from Montana PBS will be visiting the library June 12, 1 P.M. There will be opportunities to have photos taken with Clifford and activities to participate in. This event is for the whole family. This presentation will replace the Read to Me and Readers Club programs for that week.
