Jane Stewart Pehrson, 95 passed away at home in Chinook from multi-illnesses. Jane was born on April 18th, 1921 in Albion Oklahoma. The youngest of five children born to Earl and Alma (Files) Stewart. She graduated from Albion High School in 1938. In 1939 she worked in the Diet Kitchen at Eastern Oklahoma TB Sanatoriu, Talihina, OK. In 1941, she graduated from Hill's Business University, Oklahoma City, OK, with credentials to teach typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and business English. After graduation, she went to work for a firm of Patent Attorneys in Oklahoma City. In February of 1942, she went to Washington DC, where she worked as a Secretary in the Division of War Production Board. In July 1943, she moved to Stockton CA, where she took a job at the Stockton Ordinance Depot, Motor Pool Division, where she was assigned numerous positions. She agreed to help out in the office when needed. One month out of three, she worked as a Convoy Commander/for female crews of drivers, transporting vehicles to Ports of Debarcation, where the trucks were loaded on ships for overseas destination. She worked in Driver's Training and Selection. She held driver's license for any vehicle in the depot. She was personal driver for the wife of the Commanding General, who was head of the Red Cross in that area.
She married Franklin D. Pehrson, November 22nd, 1945 (Thanksgiving Day) in Talihina, OK. They had three children, John E. and Franklin S and adopted daughter Elly Renmick. They came to Chinook in July of 1947, to take over a 15 unit Motel, at the death of Frank Sr Father. She worked in the business eight years before going back to college. She graduated from Northern Montana College in 1960, with a B.S. degree in Secondary Business Education, and a minor in Social Studies. After graduation, she went to work for Blaine County Social Services, where she worked 23 years, seven years in supervision. She retired in 1983, hoping to travel and fish. She worked as a volunteer at the Chinook Senior Center for 18 years. She served on their Board of Directors for eight years as secretary, and the Blaine County Board of Aging for five years.
Jane was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She taught Kindergarten Bible class for over 20 years. She served as bookkeeper and secretary for the church for over 35 years. She held a Life Time Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary (with over 60 continuous years) and she held Life Time Membership in the VFW Auxiliary. She was a Den mother for Cub Scouts for eight years, and continued to work with the Scouts while they worked on their Eagle's badges. After she became ill in 2000 she was forced to curtail much of her volunteer activities.
Jane is survived by her husband Frank Sr, Son Frank Jr., Daughter Elly Renmick, and grandchildren Liza Pehrson, and Linda, Vicki, Susi Renmick.
The Memorial Service will be held at Edwards Funeral Home at 500 Indiana St Chinook MT, On June 3rd 2017 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Chinook Senior Center or Sweet Memorial Clinic in Chinook MT.
