We've Got The County Covered
LaVeda Overcast, age 83, passed away August 4 at the Sweet Nursing Home of natural causes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. There will be a private family service at a later date.
Veda was born November 21, 1933, at Mountain View, MO, to Frank and Ethel (Flower) Waggoner. She attended school in various states. In November 1951, she married William (Bill) Overcast in Pasco, WA. They returned to the family farm east of Chinook where they lived their entire lives. They were married for almost 65 years and to this union two children were born, daughter Barbara and son Don.
LaVeda spent endless hours tending to her yard and garden where she managed to grow grass and trees in the poorest of soils. She loved all animals, especially lambing and taking care of her bum lambs. Anyone stopping at mealtime was always invited in for a delicious bite to eat. Every grandchild received one of her handmade quilts. Veda also did needlework, liked crossword puzzles and going out to the mountains to fish and camp. She had a talent for out-fishing all the men. Her greatest joy was babysitting and playing with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Waggoner and Ethel Lanman, husband Bill, brother Ken Lanman and grandson Justin Overcast.
LaVeda is survived by her daughter Barbara (Don) Swenson and son Don (Judy) Overcast, both of Chinook; grandchildren Trinity (Misty) Swenson, Melissa (Dana) Gasvoda, and Jessica (Jay) Van Voast; and great-grandchildren Vinnessa Lundstrom, Wylie and Reubin Swenson, Chase and Brett Gasvoda, and Adalyn and Harper Van Voast; sister Ramona (Bud) Dazey, brother Calvin (Millie) Waggoner, and sister Carol (Doug) Stenberg.
Memorials, in her memory, can be donated to a charity of one's choice
