We've Got The County Covered
The Chinook Golf Course will host its 21st Annual Fireball Golf Tournament this Saturday, and has been the case the past several years a full field is expected.
The tournament has been played with as many as 22 teams in the past but the optimal number is twenty and that is what can be expected this weekend.
The tournament is the biggest of the year for the course and this Saturday players will have the opportunity to win some huge cash prizes or potentially even a trip to Hawaii.
Each team consists of four players and uses a scramble format.
Entry into the tournament includes individual and team mulligans, deuce pot and a steak dinner after the tournament.
Several hole prizes will be available for individual players to win as they play their round, but a few changes this year give all players a chance to win big.
A Hole-in-One this year will make any player jump for joy regardless of how the rest of their day has gone.
The Chinook Pharmacy is sponsoring a trip to Hawaii and the Bear Paw Credit Union has sponsored a $5,000 payout for anyone who turns the trick.
The Hole-in-One prizes are on the two Par three holes at the course.
Prize money will be awarded for first place gross and first, second and third place net. Players on the winning teams will then have the opportunity to compete individually in a Three Putt Challenge for the chance to win $10,000.
The Three-Putt-Challenge is being sponsored by Finley’s Food Farm and will require players to hole three putts in succession from varying lengths.
Pre-registration is required with check in beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning. A Calcutta will follow and teams will tee off at 9:00 a.m.
The course has been hurt by the hot weather and lack of water this summer and is preparing to hold their First Annual Community Dinner on September 9th to help raise funds for course maintenance.
The Fireball along the Triple Threat 27 Hole tournament earlier this summer along with the GreensKeepers Revenge and Maurice Harshman Memorial tournaments in September have been consistent fundraisers for the course.
Members also organized a Garage Sale at the course last weekend to help out the course.
Jack Goodrich of Goodrich Excavation provided additional sand to help repair the greens this past week and with the volunteer efforts by course members to improve the fairways and greens, the course will surely be in the best shape of the summer come Saturday.
