Plenty of changes in Northern B/C Football, as reclassification affects a number of schools

The 2017 fall football schedule has a completely different look to it and will have more than a few people asking questions. Others may see it as the way it used to look.

Choteau and Rocky Boy are now part of the newly formed MHSA 8 Player Football Alignment having done away with the Class C designation.

Choteau and Rocky Boy previously competed in the District 1B. Box Elder moves up to the 8 Player Football Alignment after playing six man football the past four seasons.

When the dust was all settled in determining where every school was going to play it was determined that the Northern B would be combined into a super division consisting of Conrad, Cut Bank, Fairfield, Glasgow/Hinsdale/Nashua, Harlem/Turner, Malta/Whitewater/Saco and Shelby.

The Class C Six Man Northern Division remains virtually the same with the exception of Power/Dutton/Brady taking the place of Box Elder.

The eight teams include; Augusta, Big Sandy, Geraldine/Highwood, Heart Butte, North Star, Power/Dutton/Brady, Sunburst and Valier.

The most drastic changes took place in reorganizing the 8 Player Football Alignment.

The Northern Division will be split into ‘A’ and ‘B’ sub-divisions. The ‘A’ division will include Choteau, Great Falls Central, Belt, Chester-Joplin-Inverness, Hays/Lodge Pole and Box Elder. The ‘B’ division will include Centerville, Cascade, Simms, Rocky Boy, Chinook and Fort Benton.

Each team will begin the season playing two non-conference inter-division games, ‘A’ vs. ‘B’. They will then play five conference game before determining the Northern Divisions four playoff teams in week eight.

That scenario includes the top teams from each subdivision playing each other with the winner getting the North’s number one seed and the loser landing the number two seed.

The ‘A’ number two will play the ‘B’ number three and vice versa. The winners of those contest will be granted the North’s number three and number four seeds.

The home team for the one versus one contest is predetermined with the ‘A’ team hosting the contest this year and the ‘B’ team next year. The two versus three games will be played at the home of the higher seed.
