Daniel D. Sargent, (Devone) , "Sarge" , 63 of Williston, North Dakota, formerly of Chinook, Montana passed away peacefully at St. Vincent's Healthcare in Billings, Montana on September 21,2017 from lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Devone attended schools in Chinook and Helena Montana. He began his oilfield career December 26, 1974. He was headquartered in the Williston area where he worked hard and rose through the ranks in the oil industry. Because of his hard work he was able to work in several states domestically, as well as, several countries internationally. Devone loved his profession and it showed. He developed friendships wherever he went and was well respected by all those in his profession. He was forced into early retirement from the oil industry after suffering a stroke in 2014.
Devone thoroughly enjoyed life to the fullest, when he was not hard at work. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He loved fishing, camping and elk hunting. Due to his health issues he was forced to find other hobbies and became known as the "X-Box King". He also enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes on his family. He was very proud of his tried and true recipes as well as the new creative recipes he concocted. He thoroughly enjoyed wrestling and would watch WWE. In his younger years the martial arts and motorcycling were special interests of his as well. He had a wonderful sense of humor and would share stories and jokes with all he encountered. He could always draw a crowd and even in his last month of life he would always try to make people laugh and smile. He was very giving and would lend a hand to anyone in need. Devone truly was the man who would "give you the shirt off his back". He had a spirit of perseverance despite many setbacks in his life and loved working on the land. He had a special gift for dealing with the developmentally delayed and those children flocked to him. Animals also had a special attraction to him. He will sorely missed by all who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering from his medical issues.
Devone was born October 11, 1953 in Havre, MT to Clarence H. and Jeannette (Martin) Sargent. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Joyce (Gary) Bryan, Martha (Wes) Stearns, infant brother and his beloved son Edward Sargent (Sarah) .
He is survived by: his daughter, Tessa Lee Lockett (Jimmy) of Williston; and sons Daniel Sargent, Jr. of Williston; and Clarence H. Sargent of Helena, Montana; His thirteen grandchildren: Aaron, Kirsty, Mikael, Shanna, Jessica, Zachary, Sierra, Samantha, Brianna, Nate; De, Edward and Samantha, and his six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Bobbie Jo) Sargent , his sisters Kathy (Dale) Zoteman, Jody (Randy) Roth, Janie (Don) Thorton, Carol (Don) Sorenson, and Darcy Sletvold (Eric Dawson), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held in Chinook Montana at the Presbyterian Church located at 437 Indiana Street on Friday, September 28th, 2017. Viewing to begin at 2:00 PM, services at 3:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Kuper Memorial Cemetery immediately after the service. Funeral arrangements handled by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook Montana.
