End of Life: Planning and Preparation Options Everyone Should Know

The Harlem Senior Center and the Harlem Public Library are co-sponsoring a 3-night (1 night each for 3 weeks) series of informational and educational training/preparation sessions focusing on three main topic areas regarding “End of Life” issues. The sessions, and their days and times, are as follows: On Monday, October 16, 7:00 pm, the topic will focus on the Legal and Financial aspects (wills, power of attorney, guardianship, estates and trusts, insurance, and beneficiaries) associated with “End of Life” decisions. Monday, October 23, 7:00 pm, will be part two concentrating on Medical aspects (home health care, nursing homes, hospice, 5 wishes, living wills). The third and final session will be on Monday, October 30, 7:00 pm, and will focus on the Death Process and After (coroner and funeral arrangements, burial/cremation and grief counseling).

A complete list of speakers and presenters with their individual topics will be printed in next week’s paper. Please plan to attend the session(s) that would most benefit you and your loved ones. Attend one, two or all three sessions. Come for yourself. Come for your family. Mark your calendars now.

All three sessions, Monday, October 16; Monday, October 23; and Monday, October 30 will be held at the Harlem Senior Center at 7:00 pm. We are anticipating approximately 2 hours for each session. Speakers and presenters will deliver their information and walk participants through the processes involved in their area of expertise. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers and discussions each evening. We will also have pamphlets, brochures and contact names with phone numbers available. Coffee and cookies will be served each night.
