'Beeters even record with 34-14 homecoming win over Simms

The Chinook Sugarbeeters football team took on the Simms Tigers this past Friday in a homecoming game that had postseason implications on the line.

The Sugarbeeters and the Tigers each carried 2-3 into the contest and a win would allow postseason chances to remain intact.

The first series for the SugarBeeters started off inauspiciously as they were sacked on second and third down and forced to punt while losing 17 yards on the possession.

From that point on though the Sugarbeeters rebounded in a big way as they held the Tigers to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession.

On the first play from scrimmage following a Simms punt, junior James Christensen rumbled 48 yards for a first down to the Simms 10-yard line picking up a fantastic block from junior Trajan Hannum along the way.

sophomore Sam Dumas would completed the drive with a five yard blast to give Chinook a 6-0 lead

The Tigers answered with a touchdown of their own and conversion attempt to take a 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Sugarbeeters began the second quarter with another Dumas touchdown, this one from 8 yards out to give the 'Beeters the lead for good 14-8.

Christensen added to the lead moments later with a 27 yard power run. Hannum added the conversion run and Chinook led 22-6.

Junior Chase Moxley scored from five yards out with 1:51 left in the half to put Chinook on top 28-8.

The Tigers found the endzone first in the third quarter to cut the 'Beeter lead to 28-14.

The offense was controlling the run game throughout the contest and with time running down in the third quarter they decided to mix things up with some razzle dazzle.

Sophomore JT Hauer took the pitch from Hannum and followed his blockers on a sweep to the right while Hannum rolled out to the left. Hauer stopped, planted his feet and let loose a perfect strike to Hannum streaking down the sideline for a 39 yard touchdown pass to give the 'Beeters a 34-14 lead.

The score would remain the same and the 'Beeters would even their record at 3-3.

Christensen finished with 108 yards on 8 carries, Moxley had 108 on 18.

Defensively Chinook was led by Ross Reed with 12 tackles, Karson Powell had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery, Sam Dumas 10 tackles and forced a fumble. Hannum had 9 tackles five pass defensed and an interception.

Chinook will take on Centerville Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
