Chinook gearing up for District 6C-East Tournament, enter as the No. 2 seed

The Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team had a busy week on the volleyball court beginning with a non conference clash against the Malta M-ettes last Tuesday, Thursday the girls faced the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks in big District 6C-East Clash. Monday the 'Beeters were in Hays to face the Thunderbirds and Tuesday the team honored its seniors in the home finale against the Box Elder Bears.

The M-ettes and 'Beeters have played each other tough every time they met this season weather it be in match play or tournament play and Tuesday was no exception. The teams battled back and forth with the M-ettes pulling out a 3-2 victory over the 'Beeters with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 11-25, 19-25 and 13-15.

The 'Beeters were led in the contest by the efforts of junior Kourtney Hanson (16 Kills, 2 Blocks), senior Sierra Swank (23 Assists, 2 Aces, 14 Digs), senior Carrie Hofer (23 Digs) and freshman Hailey Bell (6 Aces).

Thursday against the Hawks the 'Beeters were looking to wrap up the District 6C-East No. 2 seed heading into the District Tournament later this month with a win over the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks.

Chinook owned a hard fought win over the Hawks earlier in the season and were looking to complete the season sweep. Thursday's contest had none of the suspense as the Sugarbeeters dominated the Hawks start to finish in a 3-0 sweep.

Chinook cruised through the opening set, starting fast and never looking back in a 25-11 set win.

Set number two was a bit more competitive but the team in control was never questioned as Chinook won 25-18.

The Sugarbeeters completed the match sweep and season sweep with a 25-18 third set win.

Hanson led the offensive attack with seven kills and five blocks in the match. Bell served up five more aces while Hofer was busy in the back row with 13 digs. Swank set the hitters up with 11 assists in the win.

Monday the girls were in Hays to face the Thunderbirds for the second time this season. Chinook won the match in straight sets winning 25-12, 25-2 and 25-9.

The 'Beeters again were led by Hanson with five kills, Swank added 17 aces Hofer dug up five balls.

The team concluded the regular season with a match Tuesday night against the Box Elder Bears, full results will be in next weeks paper.

Tuesday's game withstanding, the 'Beeters hold a conference record of 7-2 and an overall mark of 7-6.

Chinook will take the No. 2 seed into the District Tournament which will be played in Chester on October 26-27.

The 'Beeters will get a first round bye to begin the tournament and will look to secure their spot at the Northern C Divisional the following week which will be played in their home gymnasium the following week. The top three teams in the tournament will advance to the Divisional Tournament.

Chinook and North Star will be the clear favorites in Chester as both are undefeated against the rest of the conference.
