We've Got The County Covered
The parents of the CHS Class of 2018 kicked off their first fundraiser last Friday night with a spaghetti dinner at the Eagles in Chinook. For the last several years senior class parents have hosted a 'drug-free, alcohol-free' post-graduation event. Michelle Lowham, a senior's mom and one of the volunteers at the spaghetti fundraiser, said, "The After Party is a place where the new grads can come and safely celebrate after graduation. As parents we're raising funds and giveaway items to help make it a great evening that will attract the kids."
Some activities are already scheduled. Lowham said the National Guard was bringing interactive games including laser tag and paintball and, she thought, a mobile climbing wall. Baker Amusements, out of Havre, has committed some equipment including a pool table and a foosball game. Throughout the evening there will be prizes and incentives to keep students at the event and off the highways.
Asked about a financial goal the parents hope to raise, Lowham said, "We want to raise enough to provide a fun event and have some good prizes that will be useful to the grads." She explained that any funds not used would be kept and applied toward future reunions by the class of 2018. She said seniors' parents and others had already been generous with financial gifts and donated items for the fundraising raffles and prizes for the After Party.
The spaghetti dinner began at 6pm. By 7pm about 110 diners had been served. A senior mom taking payments for the dinner said, "We planned for 150 so we are on track for a good event." There were lots of parents and a good portion of the Class of 2018 on hand to help with the first fundraiser. There are 24 seniors who will graduate and be welcomed at the After Party next May 20.
