Wildcats shine in Cascade, Sugarbeeters compete at Havre Invitational

The Chinook sugarbeeters and Harlem Wildcats got the 2017-18 wrestling campaign off to a fine start this past weekend.

The Wildcats were in Cascade where they competed in the Badger Invitational and the Sugarbeeters were at the Havre Invitational

The Wildcats had [plenty of success at the Badger Invitational finishing 10th overall as a team.

Senior Gavin Horn highlighted the Wildcat wrestling effort by pinning all four of his opponents to win the 113 pound championship.

Horn began the tournament with a pin over Gavin Judge of Great Falls (:27). He then defeated David Kemp of Helena High (:38) and Landon Molen of Great Falls (:40) before pinning Sam Lane of Broadwater/Townsend in the chipper in just (:56).

The Wildcats also received a third place effort from junior Ken Todd.

Todd went 3-1 over the weekend defeating Cody St, Clair of Jefferson/Boulder in the consolation final with a 4-2 decision.

Senior Curtis Humphreys went 3-2 and finished fourth for the Wildcats.

The Sugarbeeters were in Havre taking the mat for the first time this season.

The Sugarbeeters scored 47 points at the Invitational and got the opportunity to face some top talent and find out where they were and where they need to be as the season moves on.

Freshman Austin Swanson earned a third place finish for the Sugarbeeters at 103 pounds. Freshman Rebecca Stroh was fifth at 103 pounds.

In the 120 pound weight class Freshman Garrett Pruttis finished fifth and sophomore J.T. Hauer was sixth at 152 pounds.

Sophomore Rielly Wiegand finished sixth in the 182 pound weight class and sophomore Reubin Swenson was sixth at 205.

Both the Wildcats and the Sugarbeeters will be back on the mat this Friday for the Chinook Mixer. Saturday the teams will head to Glasgow to compete in the Scottie Invitational
