We've Got The County Covered
The Harlem Lady Cats continue to roll through their schedule and are firing on all cylinders as tournament time quickly approaches.
Harlem began the week by traveling to Chinook Thursday evening for non-conference tilt with the Sugarbeeters.
Harlem took their time in settling into a groove on offense but were stiffing on defense early.
Sophomore L'Tia Lawrence connected twice on three point buckets and junior Autumn Eagleman added a three point bomb of her own leading to 12-0 lead for the Lady Cats entering the second quarter.
Harlem junior Skylee Dirden drained a three of her own to stretch the lead to 15-0 but the Sugarbeeters would catch fire the final four minutes of the half.
Senior Sierra Swank knocked down a long three and connected on a midrange jumper from the baseline. Senior Erin Pula scored in the paint and hit two of two from the charity stripe helping the 'Beeters cut into the Harlem Lead.
Junior Rachel Gunderson scored on an offensive rebound and senior Carrie Hofer closed out the half with a three point bucket at the buzzer sending the teams to the locker room with Harlem leading 23-16.
The Lady Cats started the second half with a purpose beginning with an easy bucket for Dirden. Senior Mystic Striker followed with an offensive rebound and score to stretch the lead to 27-16.
Striker then converted another offensive rebound into points and Eagleman knocked down a wide open three off a nice kick out pass from Striker in the post.
Striker then made a nice steal and went coast to coast for another score and after another Eagleman three Harlem led 38-17 midway through the third quarter.
Lawrence added six points in the final stanza and Eagleman dropped in a long three as Harlem coasted to a 60-27 win over the Sugarbeeters.
Dirden led Harlem with 16 points in the contest, Lawrence added 15 and Striker 14. Chinook was paced on the night by Hofer with seven points.
Friday Harlem started fast and never looked back in extending their winning streak to 14 games with a 63-33 win over the Glasgow Scotties.
Lawrence scored 19 points in the win and connected from downtown on four three point bombs. Dirden added 13 for Harlem in the win.
The Lady Cats will look to lock up the District 2B No. 1 seed this weekend with huge games in Wolf Point and Poplar.
Friday the Turner Tornadoes completed the season sweep of the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds with a 73-32 win.
Turner led 13-6 after eight minutes and expanded the lead to 32-14 by intermission.
Freshman Shyan Krass propelled the Tornadoes to the first half lead with 11 points.
Krass added seven more in the third quarter helping the Turner offense continue to roll with 18 points in the quarter.
Sophomore Sarah Billmayer got hot down the stretch scoring eight fourth quarter points.
Brooke Reed added six points as Turner racked up 23 points in the fourth to secure a 73-32 win over Hays/Lode Pole.
Billmayer finished the contest with 20 points, Krass was solid with 18 and junior Rylee Conlan chipped in 11 for the Tornadoes. Freshman Ella Messerly led the Thunderbirds with 14 points on the night.
The Turner Tornadoes and the Chinook Sugarbeeters were scheduled to play Saturday but another winter snow storm postponed the game until this Tuesday, February 6.
The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds were set to host the Fort Benton Longhorns on Saturday and that contest was rescheduled for Tuesday as well. Results for both games will be in next weeks paper.
