The Turner Tornado boys basketball team has began to climb up in the standing of the District 9C following their third consecutive conference win over the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds 75-70 last Thursday.
Senior Eddie Harmon helped the Tornadoes get off to a fast start with eight first quarter points as Turner led 14-11 early on.
Thunderbird senior Chance Main provided an offensive spark for the Thunderbirds in the second quarter with seven points including a bomb from beyond the arc. Senior David Main added six points in the stanza and Hays/Lodge Pole held a slim 30-27 advantage at the intermission.
Junior Cody Welsh and the Tornadoes had the offense rolling in the third quarter. Welsh scored 9 points in the quarter and Harmon, along with junior Tracer Heilig each connected from long range to help Turner retake the lead 47-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams exploded offensively combining for 56 points the final eight minutes. The problem for the Thunderbirds is that each team scored 28 in the frame.
Chance Main scored eight for the Thunderbirds down the stretch. Senior Moke Cliff dropped in two from downtown and David Main added seven in the final minutes but the Thunderbirds were unable to chip into the Tornado lead.
Welsh erupted for 15 points in the fourth quarter and Harmon added six of his own as Turner was able to secure the 75-70 win.
Welsh led the Tornado attack with 26 points while Harmon added 22 in the win.
The Thunderbirds were paced by Chance Main with18 points, Cliff added 13 and David Main finished with 12.
Both the Tornadoes and the Thunderbirds had their Saturday games postponed due to inclement weather and were rescheduled for Tuesday.
