Diane M. Peterson

Diane M. Peterson, 68, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, due to natural causes. Cremation has taken place, and her family is planning a celebration of her life later this year. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Diane was born on September 13, 1949, in Devil's Lake, ND, to Lyle and Mavis (Hahn) Huffman. She was raised in Minnewaunkan, ND, graduating from Minnewaunkan High School in 1967. After graduation, Diane attended Valley City College, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1970. She loved children and taught elementary school in several towns, including Belcourt, Beeland, and Galva. In 1978, Diane married Donald Peterson, and the couple had a son. They moved to Harlem in 1979, where Diane taught at the Harlem Elementary School until her retirement in 2005. She and Donald divorced after moving to Harlem.

Diane loved coloring, baking, cooking, stamping, making cards, and floral arranging. She absolutely adored her grandson Lars, whom she nicknamed "Honey-Babe". She was a past member of the Montana Education Association and received a Who's Who in Education award. She served as the Harlem Mayor and city councilwoman over several years, and for many years attended the Harlem Presbyterian Church. In Minnewaukan, she had served as the treasurer for the Presbyterian Church. In her younger years, Diane loved fossil digging. Her favorite subject was science, and she loved to teach it in a way that made it fun for her students.

Diane was preceded in death by her mother Mavis.

She is survived by her son Jericho (Doreen) Peterson of Harlem; grandson Lars Peterson; father Lyle of Minnewaukan, ND; brothers Clinton (Ellen) and Robert (Kelly), all of Minnewaukan, ND, Steven (Cindy) of Leeds, ND, and Terry (Reney) of Horace, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
