Watkins headed to Girls State in Helena

Melanie Watkins, a Junior at Turner High School, was recently selected to represent Auxiliary Post #109 and Turner High School at this years American Legion Auxiliary Girls State.

This year marks the 70th year of the Girls State program in Montana. The six day program takes place June 10-16th at the Carroll College in Helena.

Watkins will be joining other girls from Montana where they will spend their experience doing full democratic process of seeking office, holding elections, and making/enforcing laws. It is a unique and exciting government in action learning program.

The girls see first handily how government works, build leadership skills, and appreciate the democratic system.

They will also make time for field trips, journalism, debate, public speaking, special distinguished speakers, mock trials, and even a talent show.

At the close of the session, college bound students will have extra consideration on scholarship applications as well as empower them to be aspired to greater accomplishments.

Melanie is the daughter of A.J. and Denise Watkins. She will be a Senior the fall of 2018 at Turner High School. Congratulations and best wishes on this unique opportunity!
