Hofer, MacLeod lead 'Beeter girls to 4th place finish at State C Golf in Fairmont

The Chinook Sugarbeeter girls finished fourth at the State C Golf tournament held at Fairmont Hot Springs last week. The girls finished with a score of 646 just three shots out of third and fourth out of second. The team consisted of senior Carrie Hofer and junior Ashley MacLeod who were both making there third appearance at the state meet. Freshman Hailey Bell and sophomore Alyssa Gruszie were competing at the state meet for the first time.

Hofer shot a 97-102 199 and matched her performance from a season ago with a sixth place finish to earn All Stat recognition, "The state tournament was crazy, my first nine holes, I shot a 43 which was

an all time low for me. The other nine, were definitely a struggle being some of the longest holes

that I have ever played, but I knew I had to keep grinding like Coach Seymour always said and stay mentally tough," said Hofer.

"I was so excited for our girls team, although it didn't turn out like we wanted it too, we were so

close to second and third place but as a team goal, coming into the second day we all wanted

to take off strokes which we did. For it being Hailey Bell and Alyssa Gruszie's first state tournament, I'm so proud of the way they handled it. I was very blessed for the team I had this year," concluded Hofer.

MacLeod also earned All State honors following thirteenth place finish with a 108-103 211. "State this year was great. It's different every year and this year I was more clam and ready to go from the start. One goal this season was to place, which in turn would earn me all state honors which is something I

hadn't done in the past two years I have gone to state. It was exciting to achieve that goal and earn a medal and all state honors.

Next year one of my main goals is to place top ten instead of top 15," said MacLeod. Bell had a two day score of 124-112 136 and Gruszie shot a 126-117 243.

For the boys, senior Tamer Jamieson posted the best two round score of his high school career to lead the boys with a 98-97 105. "Going to Fairmont for State Golf was amazing, they had an

amazing course and beautiful blue skies the whole time we were there. Playing some of the best golf I could was nothing but icing on the cake. Leading the boys team was a dream come true, and I'm glad I was able to experience it with good friends," said Jamieson.

Senior Brandon Paulson also played well after qualifying late in the season and recorded a two day score of 108-102 210. Senior Jacob Huckabee represented the Sugarbeeters for the second time at the state meet and shot a 116-105 221.

Congratulations on a fantastic season.
