We've Got The County Covered
The Harlem Lady Cat volleyball season will continue on to the Northern B Divisional in Cut Bank this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Harlem finished fourth at the District 2B Tournament in Poplar this past week to secure their spot.
The Poplar Indians and the Lady Cats had split their regular season matches with Harlem winning the first meeting in five sets and the Indians winning the second in four sets. Because of the set differential Harlem was listed as the No. 5 Seed and the Indians the No. 4.
The two teams face off in the tournament opener with the winner securing their spot at the Northern B. Not wasting any time and not looking to play more sets than needed, Head Coach Kim Faulkinberry had her girls ready to play right from the opening tip.
Harlem took the first set 25-20 and then turned the trick again, winning set number two with a 25-16 score. Looking to close out the match, the Lady Cats kept up the attack and closed out the Indians with a 25-18 third set win.
Sophomore Aspen Baker led the Lady Cats with nine of the teams 20 Kills, senior Skylee Dirden set up the hitters with 10 of the teams 21 assists. Junior MacKenzie Doney led the team with four blocks and along with sophomore Aria Owens recorded three Aces. Sophomore Taeshon Schaeffer helped secure the back row with 15 Digs.
The Lady Cats then fell to the Wolf Point Wolves in three sets, 25-15, 25-7, 25-18 and to the Malta M-ettes in four sets 25-23, 25- 14, 20-25, 25-9 to finish fourth at the District 2B.
They will now take on the top seed out of the District 1B, the undefeated Choteau Bulldogs in the first match of the day at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Cut Bank High School.
