The spring sports season is in full swing, and teams have had the time to find a rhythm and begin fine tuning events for the post season in just a few weeks.
The Chinook girls had another solid effort on the track and in the field last Thursday at the Cut Bank Pre-Easter Invitational. The team scored 90 points and finished second in the 13 team meet. Chinook also had two individual event winners.
The Harlem Wildcats were also in Cut Bank and found success as well with a pair of individual champions.
For the girls Chinook controlled the sprints and middle distances, and performed well in the field while the Wildcats again proved to be masters of the distance races.
Chinook senior Megan Molyneaux was again at the front of the pack in the 200 meter dash, winning the event with a time of :28.34.
Molyneaux has already qualified for the State C meet in the 100 Meter Dash following her performance at the Cal Wearley Invitational. Thursday in Cut Bank she finished second in the event, crossing the finish line in :13.39.
Molyneaux also did well in the Long Jump for the 'Beeters, finishing third after recording a mark of 15'0".
Harlem junior L'Tia Lawrence has dominated the distance races all season long and has been at or near the top of the field since her freshman year.
Lawrence has already qualified for the Class B state meet in both the 3,200 meter and 1,600 meter races based on earlier efforts. Thursday in Cut Bank she again ran away from the field.
Lawrence finish 1:37.10 ahead of the second place finisher in the 3,200 meter race, completing the eight laps in 12:05.45.
In the 1,600 meter race, Lawrence again won easily crossing the finish line in 5:35.83, nearly 45 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Chinook senior Kourtney Hanson turned in a solid effort in Cut Bank. Hanson won the 800 Meter race with a time of 2:34.69.
Hanson also finished third in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:06.64.
Hanson, Molyneaux, senior Lincy Johnson and freshman Anna Morrow team up to run both the short and long relays for the Sugarbeeters.
In the 4x100 the quartet completed the lap and the three exchanges in :54.84 to finish second. In the long relay they finished with a time of 4:44.91, good for third place.
'Beeter senior Rachel Gunderson led the way in the field. Gunderson finished second in the Javelin with a throw of 96'0". Chinook sophomore Jayden Miller did very well in the Discus, earning a third place finish with a flip of 99'3.75".
Harlem senior Haley Johnson added a fourth place finish in the Shot Put to add to the Wildcats point total. Freshman Taya Trottier also scored points for the Wildcats with a fifth place finish in the 400 Meter Dash and senior Skylee Dirden added a sixth place finish in the Long Jump.
For the boys, Harlem junior Brad Cichosz continued to do well in the distance races. Cichosz won the 3,200 Meter race in 10:42.93.
In the 1,600 Meter run, Cichosz finished second, completing the four laps in 4:51.03. Finishing in third place was Chinook senior Trajan Hannum with a time of 5:04.15.
Chinook senior Cord Schneider had a fine day in the field for the Sugarbeeters. Schneider finished second in the Shot Put recording a heave of 41'7".
Schneider also added a third place finish in the javelin with a throw of 126'7" and the high jump after clearing 5'6".
The Sugarbeeters 4x400 Meter relay team of Hannum, freshman Toby Niederegger, junior Sam Dumas and freshman Hunter Molyneaux finished fifth.
Dumas added a sixth place finish in the Long Jump for the Sugarbeeters while the Wildcats received a sixth place effort from sophomore Andrew Rasmussen in the Triple Jump.
Local teams will be busy over the coming weeks as the spring season hits high gear.
The Top 10 in Glasgow is Tuesday, April 30 and the District 9C Tournament is Wednesday, May 8. The District 2B meet is Saturday, May 11.
Teams will then head to their respective Divisional Meets the following week with the State B and C Meets being held May 24-25.
