Students Honored at Year End Awards Ceremony

The High School students of Turner High School were honored at a ceremony at the 2018-2019 year end. Students, teachers, and parents were invited to attend as coaches, teachers, and advisers gave their awards to students for their achievements in both sports and academics.

Cody Welsh gave a warm welcome while everyone was being sat down at the ceremony. A dessert was served as well as coffee and lemonade.

Mr. Russ McKenna, Superintendent, announced the Academic All State recipients as well as the Scholar Athletes. All State Academics recognized were Sarah Billmayer, Brandy Calvert, Kurt Calvert, Raegan Conlan, Rylee Conlan, Jack Harmon, Tracer Heilig, Lacey Hickel, Shyan Krass, Laci Maloney, Brooke Reed, Spencer, See, Melanie Watkins, and Cody Welsh. The Scholar Athlete was Brandy Calvert.

Mr. Zach Holland, Boys Coach, presented awards to his team. Captain pins were presented to Kurt Calvert, Tracer Heilig, and Cody Welsh. Bars and pins went to Tracer Heilig, Cody Welsh, Kurt Calvert, Jack Harmon, Shy Humphreys, Trever Kimmel, Shane Kimmel, Austin Welsh, and Spencer See. Letters were presented to Charlie Calvert and Spencer See. Clayton Krass received a Manager Pin.

Most Steals- Austin (24); Most Assists- Cody Welsh; Most 3 points- Shane Kimmel (21); Best Free Throw percentage- Cody Welsh (74%); Offensive Player, Team Leader in Rebounds- Cody Welsh; Defensive Player, Cody Welsh; 6th Man Award- Spencer See; Most Improved- Austin Welsh; Mr. Hustle- Shane Kimmel; MVP- Cody Welsh; All Conference and All State Selection- Cody Welsh; 1000 point Club- Cody Welsh

Julie Welsh, Girls Coach, presented her awards to the girls team. Those receiving bars were Rylee Conlan, Raegan Conlan, Melanie Watkins, Sarah Billmayer, Brooke Reed, Shyan Krass, Brandi Calvert, Laci Maloney, Dakota Krass, and Lacey Hickel. Specialty awards were presented to the following: T Award- Dakota Krass; Captain Pins- Raegan Conlan, Rylee Conlan, and Melanie Watkins; All Conference players- Melanie Watkins, Shyan Krass, and Sarah Billmayer. All State Selection- Sarah Billmayer and Shyan Krass

Top Freethrow percentage- Shyan Krass (69%); Miss Hustle- Melanie Watkins, Rylee Conlan, and Raegan Conlan; Rebound Award- Shyan Krass (216); Assists- Sarah Billmayer ( 86 assists); Most Steals- Sarah Billmayer (71); Best Defense- Rylee Conlan; Best Offense- Sarah Billmayer and Shyan Krass; Most Improved Player- Brooke Reed; 6th Man Award- Brandy Calvert; MVP-455 points this season- Shyan Krass; MVP-386 points this season- Sarah Billmayer.

National Honor Society Awards were presented by Mrs. Shelly Harmon. Receiving pins this year were Sarah Billmayer, President-Melanie Warkins, VP, Rylee Conlan, Secretary, Raegan Conlan, Treasurer, Tracer Heilig, Student Council Representative -Jack Harmon. New members received a plaque and honor pins. Those were the following people: Brooke Reed, Brandy Calvert, and Shyan Krass.

Mrs. Cindy Cowan, adviser of the Pep Club, presented awards to: President- Cody Welsh; VP- Kurt Calvert; Secretary- Melanie Watkins; Treasurer- Tracer Heilig; Student Council Representative- Austin Welsh.

Melanie Watkins presented the Tornado Award to a community member for attending the most sports for the 2018-2019 seasons was proudly presented to Gerald and Shirley Keller.

Mrs. Elissa Zellmer, Adviser of the Student Council, presented the Student Council Awards to:

President- Cody Welsh; VP- Rylee Conlan; Treasurer- Tracer Heilig; Secretary- Melanie Watkins

Mrs. Brenda Mohar and Mrs. Shawna Billmayer, coaches of the Track team presented awards to the following people: Freshman Receiving Their T's and a foot pin: Victoria Kirby and Laci Maloney.

Sophomores receiving bars: Shane Kimmel, Spencer See (receiving a T), and Shyan Krass

Juniors receiving a bar: Jack Harmon and Sarah Billmayer. Seniors receiving a bar or a T: Cody Welsh, Clayton Krass, and Rylee Conlan (bars) and Raegan Conlan (T).

Top 10 Medals: Shyan Krass, Jack Harmon, Cody Welsh, and Sarah Billmayer.

New Records! The Girls relay team beat the 1995 record 55.25 Rylee Conlan, Laci Maloney, Sarah Billmayer, and Raegan Conlan. 2015 Record in the 400 m was 64 second. Laci Maloney set a new School record of 63.86. Congratulations!

Most Improved Track Boys- Jack Harmon; Most Improved Track Girls- Shyan Krass; Most Points Girls- Sarah Billmayer; Most Points- Boys- Cody Welsh.

Clerk of the Turner Board of Trustees, Cindy Cowan, gave a special recognition of retirement of Bus Drivers, PJ and Tricia Kimmel. They have been doing this for 19 years. Congratulations to the Kimmels and thanks for your support and service over the years.

Clerk of Turner Board of Trustees, Cindy Cowan, and Superintendent, Mr. Russ McKenna, presented Mrs. April Fox for being named Art Teacher of the Year for Montana and Pacific Region. This was a very prestigious award and we all congratulate her on this endeavor.

Mrs. April Fox, Art instructor for K-12, presented the Outstanding Art Awards for the 2018-2019 School year. She felt that two students were very worthy of the award so they were both named Outstanding Art Students, Brooke Reed and Brandy Calvert.

Mr. Russ McKenna, Superintendent, handed out the Outstanding Business Award. The Entrepreneur Award for Montana Teen Entrepreneur Roundup award was presented to Clayton Krass.

Mr. Russ McKenna, Superintendent, stood in for Jr. High and High School Teacher who was unable to attend the ceremony, Mrs. Heather Jorgenson, awarded the Outstanding Award to Spencer See and Brandy Calvert.

Zach Holland, History Teacher, presented the Outstanding History Award to Clayton Krass and Tracer Heilig.

Math Awards were presented by Michelle Keller (High School teacher) and Elissa Zellmer (Junior High Math teacher). Montana Council Teacher Mathematics Honorable Mention: Emma Timmons 7th grade; Dimensions and Shapes- Trever Kimmel; Problem Solving- Shyan Krass; Intermediate: Melanie Watkins; Superior: Applied Problem Solving: Brandy Calvert; Problem Solving-Intermediate: Spencer See; Honorable Mention Shapes, Intermediate and Super Applied: Lacey Hickel; Intermediate Test- Rylee Conlan; Immediate Advance- Tracer Heilig; Problem Solving in shapes and Dimensions- Laci Maloney

Intermediate, Advance, Fine- Jack Harmon.

Each year door prizes are given out at the Math Contest. This year a $10.00 gift certificate was awarded to Trent Billmayer.

Learning and singing the equation song well Award- Shay Humphreys; Outstanding Math Award- Brandy Calvert.

Mr. Aristotle Mejia, Science Teacher, presented the Outstanding Science Student of the Year Award to Brandy Calvert.

Mrs. Cindy Cowan, Clerk of the Board of Trustees, presented the yearbook awards. Those in yearbook received a certificate, pin and key chain. They were Laci Maloney, Trever Kimmel, Victoria Kirby, and Shay Humphreys, and Lacey Hickel.
