We've Got The County Covered
The Harlem Wildcat Cross Country team has had anything but a normal season. Head Coach Hope Doney and her athletes have had to overcome a number of obstacles just to be able to compete. The Cross Country team, along with the volleyball and football teams were forced to put their seasons on hold the end of September due to COVID-19 quarantines and restrictions put in place by the Harlem School Board. The safety of the student athletes has always been the school boards primary focus and with a rapidly rising number of Covid cases in Blaine County, suspension of the season at the time was the Boards decision. Following a School Board meeting, October 12, the go ahead was given to resume the season. The Wildcat Cross Country team was allowed to return to practice on Monday, October 19. The Montana Class B State Cross Country meet was held Friday, October 23 at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell. This rapid turn of events left the Wildcat Harriers with little time to get ready as a unit for the state meet. Organized team functions were shut down during the suspension of play and whether student athletes may or may not have had the opportunity to practice on their own, made preparation for the state meet more difficult. The Class B boys ran Friday in the midst of snow and cold and the six boys running for the Wildcats performed admirably. Junior RJ Ramone paced the boys contingent finishing in 19:11.38 (29th). Junior Daniel Lawrence crossed the finish line in 19:47.76 (43rd). Junior Titan Brockie recorded a time of 20:18.03 (53rd). Freshman Moses Lawrence turned in an effort of 22:59.03 (123rd). Senior Trent Main finished the course in a time of 26:05.51 148th) and senior Lance Blackcrows effort of 26:49.72 (151st) rounded out the Wildcat boys. Senior Gabi Bell turned in a time of 25:38.05 as the only Lady Cat running.
