We've Got The County Covered
After nearly 40 years of a highly successful Chinook Community Thanksgiving Dinner the crew has decided to expand for 2020.
Betty and Mark Billmayer, Jay Eslick, Kathy O’Brien and the whole crew are proud to announce that they will be doing a Chinook Community Christmas Dinner as well.
“The Thanksgiving Dinner went so well, and I just thought this year has been so challenging for everyone, that maybe we could do a Christmas Dinner as well” Betty stated. “I talked with Mark, and he liked the idea. We then visited with Jay and Kathy and they liked the idea, so we had a meeting Thursday to see if we could make it happen and we did.
“Betty said at the meeting that she really felt a need to make this happen this year. People will be alone, and that’s sad. This year has been so different, and Betty really felt a need to help those in our community,” stated Jay.
The decision on a Christmas Dinner becoming a annual event is still yet to be determined. After the Thanksgiving Dinner saw 190 meals delivered or picked up, organizers were extremely motivated to repeat the process a month later.
The Christmas Day meal will be Ham dinner accompanied by a wide variety of sides and a dessert. “I have been preparing for the dinner and made dozens of cookies, had them spread all over the kitchen,” said Betty. “The cookies will be a dessert item for the dinner and I never thought I’d see the day, but Mark stepped in and helped me frost the cookies!”
Orders can be placed by calling Kathy O’Brien at 357-2937, beginning Monday December 14. Orders are requested to be in by Monday, December 21, but no order will be turned away.
Deliveries will begin at 11:00 a.m. Christmas Day, beginning with deliveries to the Grand Villa and will continue until the last meal is delivered. Those individuals or families with orders for pick up can grab those beginning at Noon.
Those receiving meals by pickup are asked to give a desired time for pickup when placing their order: Noon, 12:15, 12:30, 12:45 or 1:00 p.m. Pickup can be made at designated time at the east door of the Blaine County Fairgrounds Commercial Building. Organizers request that you remain in your vehicle and your meals will be brought out to you.
Whether the Christmas Dinner becomes an annual event or is just a 2020 happening, it is another prime example of living in a small caring community.
