We've Got The County Covered
Beginning in February, MAT will be offering monthly workshops for middle and high school aged youth. Each month will focus on a different theatre aspect, and workshops will be led by various MAT staff and volunteers.
From 4:00-6:00 p.m., every Monday and Wednesday evening at the Montana Actors' Theater (MAT) located on the Montana State University-Northern (MSUN) Campus, young people in grades 6-12 are invited to participate and learn. Workshops will follow a tentative program schedule with February's topic featuring Auditioning, Character Development, and Basic Movement. Most months will provide eight sessions of learning.
In April, the focus will shift to Costume Design and Construction, and May's topic will be an Introduction to Classical Theatre, Shakespeare, and Stage Fighting.
With the arrival of autumn, September 2021 will offer youth an opportunity to write, develop, and perform one act plays. October will feature Light and Sound, followed by an Introduction to Puppetry in November.
According to Angela Pratt, during the months when no workshops are scheduled, there will still be plenty of opportunity to participate in MAT. "Those months will be focused on specific shows and performances," she said.
Space is limited, so those interested in participating are encouraged to register early. Registration is available online on the MAT website, mtactors.com.
