Hauer and McMaster Are Crowned Prom Royalty

Star-Struck, the Junior-Senior Prom at Chinook High School was held on April 10, and those in attendance danced until 11:00 p.m. with their favorite stars. Pictures with Helmbrecht Photography took place from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. with the Grand March beginning at 7:30.

Prom-goers walked the red carpet flanked by gold palm trees as they entered the Floyd Bowen Gymnasium, which was transformed on Saturday night by Hollywood-themed decorations. White gossamer hung from the ceiling, and silver chandeliers twinkled. The iconic white letters of the Hollywood Sign hung from the gym's south wall– a universal metaphor for the ambition, success, and glamour of the dazzling district called H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D.

Plenty of paparazzi were on hand for the coronation when Shay Hauer was crowned queen and Patrick McMaster received the king's crown. The royal pair were accompanied by their court: Princes included Drake Berreth, Lincoln Reich, Ethan Liddle, Liam Edwards, and Wyatt Dunbar; and Princesses presiding were Allison Powell, Stacie Liddle, Bailey Skoyen, Halle Mitchell, Kinley Hamilton, and Tylie Richman.

Serving as the event's disc jockey, Moses Deanon-who is the Chinook School District Clerk by day-kept the dancers active on the dance floor most of the night.

Throughout the evening, several door prizes were also drawn. Every guest in attendance had his or her name entered into the prize lottery, and those who visited the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home received an extra entry.

A modified walk through was arranged by the nursing home staff, who invited prom attendees to model their formal attire at the Sweet Home at 6:15 p.m. Masks were required and sanitation stations were set up. Because the Home's residents look forward to this event, all prom-goers were encouraged to participate.

According to Junior Class Advisor, Julie Terry, "We do hourly drawings as incentives for kids to stay (and stay safe). There were Creamery cards, gas cards from Town Pump, a certificate to All Dahl'd Up, Beeter gear from Shores Floral & Gift, and a couple of McDonalds cards since the kids are on the road for spring sports so often."

These prizes are purchased by anonymous donors, who wish to sponsor the event as well as support the community.

Terry has served for six years as chaperone and class advisor with her companion, Fay Friede, who is on her seventh year with prom duty
