We've Got The County Covered
The Milk River Indian Days (MRID) Pow Wow has featured some of the most beautiful pageantry, dancing and drumming around the country for more than 50 years.
The MRID Pow Wow has attracted folks from all over the United States and Canada and has been a highlight of the Pow Wow Calender for years. Unfortunately the Pow Wow was forced to cancel a year ago due to the worldwide Covid-19 Pandemic.
This year the MRID Pow Wow makes its return, albeit in a limited form. Festivities will be limited to local residents (Blaine/Phillips Counties) due to the rise in new Covid-19 cases.
Despite limited restriction, this years Pow Wow will still be a wonderful sight to see. It will include traditional dancing and drumming. Organizers have stated that ALL dancers and Drum Teams will be paid, but the exact amount won't be known until all entries are tabulated. In addition all Dancing and Drum Group performances will be non-competitive.
The 2021 Milk River Indian Days Tradition Parade is being called "The Spirit of Healing". The Parade will take place Friday, July 30 at 1:00 p.m. Line-up will take place in front of the Airport/Bingo Hall and the Grand Marshal will be the PHN Department between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
The Parade is non-competitive as well and no entry is required for floats, horses or reservation cars. ALL participating youth (0-17) must sign in at the airstrip to be compensated.
Also taking place on Friday will be a Healing Pipe Ceremony as well as a Mourners Feed to honor and pay respects to all those who have lost loved ones. The Mourners Feed will remember all lost in addition to natural causes and Covid-19.
The Grand Entry into the Pow Wow Grounds will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 at Fort Belknap Agency.
