Montana Arts Council Seeks Nominations for Governor's Arts Awards

The Montana Arts Council, an agency of State Government, announced recently that nominations for the 2022 Governor's Arts Awards are now open. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, February 3, at 5:00 p.m.

Every two years, Montana honors those individuals and institutions that have contributed a substantial legacy to the arts in Big Sky Country. Presented in the Governor's name, these awards represent the highest honor Montana bestows on those working in the visual, performing, and literary arts.

In selecting recipients for the Governor's Arts Award (GAA), the committee seeks to honor outstanding citizens and organizations in Montana whose achievements in the arts, or on behalf of the arts, benefit all Montanans.

Awardees demonstrate distinction in four main categories: 1) Achievement and artistic excellence, 2) Dedication to Montana, 3) Ongoing contributions to the cultural community, and 4) Worthiness of recognition.

Available online at https://art.mt.gov/gaa, nomination forms are comprised of three parts: Nominator Information, Candidate Information, and Narrative Questions. One of the narrative questions asks the nominator to describe the cultural contributions of the candidate and to explain why the individual or organization is deserving of the honor. Another invites a description of the candidate's connection to Montana.

Anyone seeking additional information about the award is encouraged to contact the Montana Arts Council by phone (406-444-6430) or email (mac@mt.gov).
