6-2 'Beeters Off to a Fast Start in New Year,Top Chester/J-I, Harlem & Turner

The Chinook Sugarbeeters, fresh off their 58-30 win in Chester on Tuesday, headed east Friday night to challenge the Harlem Lady Cats in a non conference clash between Highway 2 rivals. Friday night's contest was the first of the new year for the Lady Cats before they jumped back into conference play on Saturday. The Sugarbeeters took control early and steadily built on their lead in securing a 58-32 win. The 'Beeters closed out the week with a 71-37 win over the Turner Tornadoes at home.

The Sugarbeeters were on the road to begin the new year as they headed west to Chester to take on the Hawks. Sophomore Hallie Neibauer scored six in the opening frame as the 'Beeters opened up a early 13-6 advantage.

Neibauer connected from distance in the second but the offense struggled to get anything going. Junior Anna Terry and freshman Alexus Seymour added a pair of free throws accounting for all seven of Chinooks points in the quarter. The defense remained on point to keep Chinook in front and take a 20-14 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break the 'Beeter offense exploded. Neibauer, Seymour and junior Bree Swanson all connected from down town. The defense ratcheted up the pressure leading to a 23 point third quarter scoring surge. The 'Beeters took a 43-17 heading into the fourth quarter of action.

The offense added 15 points down the stretch as Chinook coasted to a 58-30 win over the Hawks. Neibauer led the way with 22 points on the night. Seymour finished with 11.

The Sugarbeeters have been a hard nosed defensive minded team early in the season and showed no holiday break let down as they harassed the Lady Cat offense right from the opening tip. Junior Bree Swanson and sophomore Britton Elliot each connected from long range and scored five first quarter points to power the 'Beeter attack early on. The Sugarbeeters led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The defense was relentless in the second quarter, limiting the Lady Cats to just three points on a three-point bucket from senior Vanise Little. Swanson added six more before the break and Seymour connected once again from distance to keep the offense rolling. Chinook took a 25-8 lead into the halftime locker room.

The 'Beeters maintained a steady offensive attack in the third quarter with senior Allison Powell scoring four as well as Seymour. Harlem senior Taya Trottier found the scoring column in the third quarter scoring her first eight points of the contest.

The 'Beeters began the fourth quarter with a 39-22 advantage and added to it the final eight minutes. Seven players combined to score 19 points in the final quarter leading to 58-32 non-conference win over the Lady Cats.

The Sugarbeeters had a balanced attack offensively with four players in double figures. Swanson and Seymour each finished with 13 points while Powell and sophomore Britton Elliot each tallied 11. Trottier led the Lady Cats with 12 points in the contest.

Saturday night the 'Beeters were back playing in front of the hometown crowd as they welcomed the Turner Tornadoes to town.

The 'Beeters got off to a fast start, Swanson scored seven in the opening stanza. Seymour added a dagger from long range and Chinook led 16-7 at the end of one.

Seymour caught fire from distance in the second quarter connecting four times from beyond the arc, giving her five in the half. Junior Torin Cecrle added a three ball and five points while Swanson and Powell each score four in a 27 point second quarter scoring frenzy.

Chinook began the third quarter with a comfortable 43-14 lead and would only build on it. Swanson added five more in the third, Elliot added four to her total and the offense kept rolling.

The 'Beeters took their foot off the gas down the stretch scoring 12 fourth quarter points to secure a 71-37 win over the Tornadoes.

Chinook again had a very balanced scoring attack and were led on the night by Seymour with 19, including five three-point buckets in the first half. Swanson added 16 in the win for the 'Beeters while Elliot finished with 11. Powell continued the steady play with nine points in the contest.

Eighth grader Bridgette Reed led the Tornadoes with 11 points while Krass finished with nine.
