The Turner Tornadoes were in Big Sandy this past Friday in a battle between two teams looking to pick up their first District 9C win. Saturday the Tornadoes were back out on the road, this time in Gildford to take on the North Star Knights.
The Tornadoes played a couple of solid quarters in Big Sandy Friday night, but they had a couple of really tough ones as well. The Pioneers opened up a 26-7 lead early on, but the Tornadoes put together a 19-10 second quarter to cut the Pioneer lead 36-26 by the break.
Big Sandy however started the second half the way they dis the first, outscoring the Tornadoes 23-5 to take control of the contest. Turner trailed 59-31 entering the fourth and were defeated 70-49. Junior Dakota Krass accounted for the bulk of the Turner offense scoring 33 points in the contest.
Saturday the Tornadoes were in Gildford to take on the North Star Knights in another tough District 9C test. Freshman Meridian Snider scored a first quarter three but the Knights held a 15-6 advantage at the end of the first.
Turner got a bucket each from four different players in the second, but the Knights built on their lead taking a 33-14 halftime advantage.
The Tornadoes continued to play each possession hard after the break. Krass scored six points for the Tornadoes in the third quarter, but the Tornadoes saw the Knights continue to grow the lead.
Turner scored 11 points down the stretch with eighth grader Bridget Reed accounting for seven of them. The Knights had a comfortable lead to start the fourth and secured a 56-33 win by games end.
Krass and Reed each finished with 10 points in the contest to lead the Tornadoes.
