Colby Re-elected as Blaine County Sheriff, Shane Fox Wins Commissioner Seat

The 2022 Midterm Elections were held this past Tuesday and Blaine County Voters reelected Sheriff John Colby and Shane Fox won the race for Blaine County Commissioner District No. 2. Voter turnout statewide was at 60.22% of registered voters casting their ballot. In Blaine County, voter turnout was at 47.05% with 1,875 voters heading to the Polls.

For the most part Blaine County Voters were in-line with the rest of the state in races and ballot issues with the exception being Legislative Referendum No. 131. In Blaine County voters selected Yes on 57% of the Ballots while No Votes accounted for 43%. Statewide the No vote tally stood at 53% and Yes at 47%.

In the race for the newly created United States Representative - 2nd District: Blaine County voters cast 1,038 votes (56%) for Matt Rosendale, Republican. Penny Ronning, Democrat received 32% (585) of the Blaine County vote 585. Sam Rankin, Libertarian and Gary Buchanan, Independent received 1% and 11% of the county vote. Matt Rosendale won the state race with 57% (120,899) of the vote while Penny Ronning was second with 20% (42,905) of the 2nd District vote. Montana was awarded a second United States Representative and Ryan K Zinke, Republican was elected to serve the 1st District winning with 50% (120,285) of the vote. Monica Tranel, Democrat was just behind with 46% (112,271) of the district vote.

In the race for Blaine County Commissioner, District #2 voters had a choice between Republican Primary winner, Shane Fox and Democrat Primary winner Todd Jorgenson to fill the seat currently being held by Frank DePriest. Fox beat DePriest in the June Primary. When the votes were all tabulated voters had elected Fox to fill position, receiving 746 votes (83%). Jorgenson received 158 votes (16%) from the electorate.

When Blaine County voters were filling out their ballot, they were presented with one choice for Blaine County Sheriff/Coroner, incumbent John Colby, Democrat. Colby was challenged however by write-in candidate Kevin Spudic who ran a grass roots campaign. In the end Colby was re-elected after receiving 1,160 votes or 72% of the ballots cast.

For Supreme Court Justice #1 - Bill D’alton, Non-Partisan received 19% locally while Jim Rice, Non-Partisan received 80%. rice received 77% of the statewide vote, easily winning reelection. In the race for Supreme Court Justice #2, James Brown, Non-Partisan 48%of the local vote. Ingrid Gustafson, Non-Partisan won the county with 52% of the vote. Statewide Gustafson received 54% of the vote to win reelection. Constitutional Amendment No. 48received a Yes vote on 82% of Blaine County votes and was passed after receiving 82% of the statewide vote.

In the race for State Representative District 32 voters again saw Jonathan Windy Boy, Democrat win reelection with 97% of the Blaine County vote and 96% of the District vote. For State Representative District 33, Casey James Knudsen, Republican received 75% of the Blaine County vote compared to Jordan Ophus, Democrat with just 25%. District wide Knudsen garnered 77% of the vote to win election.

The remaining races were ran uncontested by the current incumbent. These positions included: Public Service Commissioner District 1, where Randy Pinocci, Republican received 96% (1,369) of the county vote and 97% of the district vote (56,052). For Blaine County Clerk And Recorder/Assessor voters reelected Pauly B. Miller, Republican with 99% of votes cast. Blaine County Attorney Kelsie Whitney Harwood, Democrat won reelection with 98% of the voter turnout. Blaine County Superintendent Of Schools Valerie M. White, Republican was granted another term after receiving 98% of the vote.

The final item on the ballot for Blaine County Voters voting Yes/No on the question: Shall Justice Of The Peace Perry W. Miller Of The Justice Court Of The County Of Blaine Of The State Of Montana Be Retained In Office For Another Term? The Yes vote was 94% (1,702), compared to the No vote of 6% (107).
