New Coaches Look to Lead the Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds In 2022-23

The Hays Lodge Pole Thunderbirds girls and boys basketball programs both have new Head Coaches this season. Leading the Girls program will be Cody Shambo and back for the Boys after three years will be Head Coach, Derek Shambo.

The Thunderbirds girls program put together a fine season a year ago, finishing third in the District 9C standings and will look to build on the upward trend this year. The boys have struggled the past few years and haven't had much success on the court since Derek last led the team in 2019. Full rosters were unavailable at press time, but will be passed on to our readers when we receive them.

The Hays/Lodge Pole Girls and Boys Varsity basketball teams will begin their seasons in Billings at the All American Indian Shootout. The Boys will take on Huntley Project at 11:30 am, Thursday, December 8 and then face Two Eagle River on December 10 at 3:00 pm. The girls will open with Lame Deer on Friday, December 9 at 6:30 pm and return to the court the following day to face Plenty Coup at 10:30 Saturday morning.

The Thunderbirds will close out 2022 at home December 13 against the District 1B Rocky Boy Northern Stars. They will be in Gildford on December 16 to face the North Star Knights in their District 9C Conference opener. The Thunderbirds will host Big Sandy on December 17 and then head back out on the road to face the Longhorns on December 20. The final contest of the year will be at home December 21 against the Chinook Sugarbeeters.

Hays/Lodge Pole will return to the court in 2023 on Friday January 6 when they head to Turner to take on the Tornadoes. The regular season will conclude in Box elder on February 11.

The District 9C Tournament will take place February 15-18 and will be played once gain at the Havre High School gymnasium. The top three teams will advance to the Northern C in Great Falls.
