We've Got The County Covered
The Harlem Wildcats entered the 2022-23 season with very little experience, returning just four players with limited varsity court time. That being said what they don't lack is heart and the will to compete for 32 minutes each time they take the court.
Friday night the Wildcats were in Malta to face the Mustangs in their District 2B season opener.
Harlem held their ground early on against the Mustangs and trailed by just three, 22-19 at the end of the first quarter. Malta opened the game up a bit in the second quarter, outscoring Harlem 19-7 before the half to open up a 41-26 lead at the break.
The game really got away from the Wildcats in the third quarter with the Mustangs holding a 33-12 edge in the frame. Down the stretch the Wildcats and Mustangs matched each other with 14 points apiece. In the end it was Malta taking the win 88-52. No individual scores were available.
Saturday the Wildcats welcomed the Poplar Indians to the Jungle for their Home opener. Harlem again did their best to match their opponent on the court but in the end it was the visitors earning a 75-52 win over the Wildcats.
Harlem was led in the contest by senior Marley Stewart with 15 points. Junior Tommy Champagne added 12. Harlem will be in Cut Bank this Thursday in their final contest before the holiday break. They will return to the court on January 6 in a home contest against the Chinook Sugarbeeters.
