Thunderbirds Take Down Rocky Boy 47-28 on the Road

The Hays/Lodge Pole Thunderbirds found the win column once again this past Thursday as they travelled to Rocky Boy to take on the Morning Stars. The Thunderbirds scored eight in the opening frame and trailed 11-8 heading into the second. Hays/Lodge Pole began to heat up the longer the game went on.

Hays Lodge Pole scored 18 in the second quarter to lead 26-18 at the break. Sophomore Angela Blackcrow led the comeback with 10 first half points while junior Aliyah Pretty Paint added six and freshman Hailey Not Afraid scored five.

Pretty Paint kept the momentum going in the third, connecting from beyond the arc and adding seven more points to her total. Sophomore Nashone Shambo added a couple of buckets to help the Thunderbirds take a 39-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

Shambo connected from distance to keep the Morning Stars at bay. The Thunderbirds defense stepped up their pressure and limited the Morning Stars to just 10 second half points, four in the fourth quarter. Pretty Paint scored 13 in the win for the Thunderbirds while Shambo contributed nine.

The North Star Knights visited the Thunderdome on Friday and staked out an early 15-2 lead at the end of one. Hays/Lodge Pole played the Knights just about even the rest of the way but the big deficit early was to much to overcome in a 44-27 setback. Pretty Paint and Shambo each scored seven in the contest for the Thunderbirds

Saturday the Thunderbirds travelled to Big Sandy to take on the Pioneers. Not Afraid connected from beyond the arc for the Thunderbirds but it was Big Sandy that opened up an 18-7 advantage heading into the second quarter. The offense came alive before the half scoring 27 in the frame. Shambo and Pretty Paint each dropped in eight points for the Thunderbirds. Not Afraid added another from long range and score five to give the Thunderbirds a 34-31 halftime lead.

Hays/Lodge Pole came out strong to start the third quarter. Shambo added another triple and scored seven allowing the Thunderbirds to increase their lead to 49-43 heading into the fourth quarter. The Pioneers found a hole in the Thunderbird defense down the stretch, scoring 24 points in the quarter. The Thunderbird offense could muster just nine points as they watched their lead turn into a 67-58 loss.

Pretty Paint and Shambo paced the Thunderbirds with 15 points apiece. Hays/Lodge Pole will host Fort Benton on Friday and head to Chinook on Saturday.
