Alfred L. Finch

Alfred L. Finch, passed away peacefully at the young age of 101. He was born on January 15, 1922 to parents Clarence & Bertha Finch. Alfred and his siblings were raised on the family homestead SW (E. Yantic) of his current farm until the 1930’s. At this time the family moved to the current location and at the ripe age of 12 Alfred fell in love with farming. He attended elementary school at Logi and graduated from Chinook High School in 1941. Upon Graduation he returned to the family farm where he lived until his creator called him home on January 25, 2023.

At the age of 90 he decided he needed a little help, he called upon good friend Allen Gruszie to help him with harvest. When spring came around Allen continued to assist him in planting. This great relationship turned into a mentorship and Allen started leasing the farm in 2014.

Alfred was a spiritual man who enjoyed reading the teachings of our Lord. He led a very simple, humble, and quiet life, he wasn’t much up for crowds. He would make a weekly trip to Havre for a meal and groceries but other than that was content to just be home on the farm. He also loved a good visit from friends and neighbors.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Bertha Finch, brothers Ray Finch, Bill Finch, Frank Finch and Sister Martha Bonebright.

He is survived by numerous nieces & nephews, neighbors and good friend Allen Gruszie & Family.

A simple graveside service has taken place Wednesday, February 1st, 2pm at the farm. A light reception of soup, Oatmeal Cookies and Cherry Pie, Alfred’s favorites followed the service. In Lieu of flowers, we ask you make donations to Shodair Children’s Hospital 2755 Colonial Drive Helena, MT 59604.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilderness Funeral Home.
