Lady Cats Beat Rocky Boy 45-43 With Buzzer Beater

The Harlem Lady Cats were back in action this week beginning with a road trip to Rocky Boy on Tuesday to face the Morning Stars. The Lady Cats lost the first meeting between the two teams back in January and were looking for a different outcome in round two, and they got it.

The Lady Cats jumped out to a 13-5 lead after eight minutes of action. Junior Emma Billmayer and sophomore Gracie Sanchez extended the defense with a couple of long three point buckets. Harlem played well to close out the half and took a 25-20 lead into halftime. The Morning Stars came out firing to start the second half outscoring the Lady Cats 13-8 in the third quarter to even the contest at 33-33 entering the fourth.

Despite being a very young team the Lady Cats showed a lot of composure as seconds ticked off the clock. Both teams were able to match each other point for point with neither gaining any separation. With the game tied at 43-43 and the final seconds winding down the Lady Cats got the ball to eighth grader Maddy Mount on the left baseline where she floated in a beautiful shot giving the Lady Cats a 45-43 win. Billmayer led the way with 10 points and sophomore Jaden Blackcrow finished with nine.

Saturday the girls were at home to take on the Wolf Point Wolves in a District 2B showdown. The Lady Cats struggled early and trailed 16-4 at the start of the second. Wolf Point extended the lead to 30-10 by halftime and left with a 56-25 win over the Lady Cats. Billmayer, sophomore Lacia Walls and Mount each scored five points in the contest.
