School Spelling Bees have been held at Blaine County's Elementary and Junior High Schools with winners from each school advancing on to the Blaine County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 21 at the Chinook High School Auditorium at 10:00 am. Harlem Elementary held their Bee on Friday, February 3. Janice Gilham was proud of the effort put forth by the students saying, "All of the participants did an impressive job, but fifth grader, Arin Healy-Paris, managed to hold off his competitors to come out on top as this year's champion speller." The runners up, in no particular order, were Kingston Johnson (6th Grade), Caleb Stiffarm (5th Grade), Ryan Fetter (6th Grade), and Buck Guerrero (5th Grade).
In Chinook the school released a list of winners from its Spelling Bee held, Tuesday, February 7. Eight grader Rangler Skoyen was the top speller outlasting all other competitors. Akaysha Kelly (5th) was second, Jaxton Crowley (5th) third, Bryce Elliot (7th) fourth, Sam Sanders (7th) fifth and Cynnloch Gibson (6th) finished sixth. Chinook had two alternates that will take the place of a contestant should that individual not be able to attend. The alternates are Kaidence Unruh (8th) and Carter Alisch (8th).
Turner schools announced a pair of winners, they are Savannah Heilig (8th) and Holly Grabofsky (6th). Hays/Lodge Pole School winners include Sophia Speakthunder (5th), Peyton Hawley (6th), Whisper Werk (7th) and Calvin Tumulak (8th). Results from the other schools had not been received by the Blaine County Superintendents Office as of press time. The winner of the Blaine County Spelling Bee will advance to the Montana State Spelling Bee in Bozeman on March 11. An alternate will be listed to fill in should the winner not be able to attend the Spelling Bee in Bozeman. Good luck to all participants at the Blaine County Spelling Bee.
