Chinook Golfers Finally Hit the Links

After nearly five weeks inside a contingent of Chinook High School golfers were able to get on the course and compete for the first time. A group of four boys and two girls made their way to the Anaconda Hills Golf Course in Great Falls last Monday to swing a club outside for the first time this season.

Head Coach, Nick Turner had Senior Ryan Meneely, sophomores Jacob Metcalf and Kohen Sullivan and Dentin DePriest on the boys side and senior Morgan Friede and Sophomore Brianna Boetcher for the girls in Great Falls. For Boetcher and DePriest is was their very first time ever playing 18 holes.

Friede is the only Chinook Golfer with State C experience and started the 2023 season with a round of 117 to finish 7th in the field of 39 .

Turner was happy to see his kids finally get a chance to play and excited for his beginners to get a taste of the action, "Anaconda Hills, that's a tough course to play, seems like every hole is uphill. Brianna and Dentin did well. There were some bogeys even and not to many circle 10's so it was a good start for them."

When asked what he though of his first time on the course, Dentin laughed and said, "I think we walked about 10 miles, but it was fun."

The 'Beeter golfers were back in Great Falls on Monday. This time at the Meadowlark Golf and Country Club. Senior Daniel MacLeod along with sophomores Lance Pitkanen and Brockton Elliot played their first round of the season on Monday and full results will be in next weeks Blaine County Journal.

Turner hopes to get a few kids qualified for the State C Meet in May, but standards increased dramatically a season ago. For the boys a marked round of 85 is required and for the girls the standard is set at 100.

The Easter C Divisional will be held in Laurel with the top 25 individual and top five teams advancing to the State C.
