We've Got The County Covered
This past weekend the Harlem Wilcats headed west to Glasgow for the 2B District Track and Field meet.
Two Harlem athletes have already prequalified for the State meet, and more are hoping to make it to the big show at divisionals this next weekend.
Keonna Medicine Bear has had a great season on the field where she prequalified in the Girls High Jump while also tying the school record with a jump of 5'0".
"Keonna has sacrificed so much to achieve her high jumping success. She had to miss out on the last part of volleyball due to some foot issues. She wanted to make sure her foot was healed before her senior track season. Her main goal during the season was to pre-qualify for state in the high jump. She works out after practice to stay strong. Keonna didn't go on her senior trip in order to compete at the Top 10 meet. She recently cleared 5'0, so she is going in the right direction. Conditions were not the greatest in Glasgow for Districts but she managed to finish 2nd. She was also willing to take the first leg of the short relay team!", stated Head Coach, Kim Faulkinberry.
Branlin Foote has also shined on the track this year and is the second Wildcat to prequalify for the State meet. Foote is only an eighth grader and prequalified in the 3200m.
"Branlin has pre-qualified in the 3200m. I have no doubt that he will also qualify the regular way in the 1600. As an 8th grader he does a great job of training in and out of practice. I really believe that Branlin can write his ticket to run at the collegiate level if he so chooses!"
There are several other tracksters that Faulkinberry believes could make it to the State meet. "We are looking at great efforts from Erik Snell in the discus, Jessica King in the Javelin, Kaitlyn Johnson in the hurdles, the girls short relay team could make some noise and make it to state. Raelynne Briere could make some noise in the 400m. We have told the kids to show up and compete. Nobody knows what can happen at the divisional level.
We will be taking 15 competitors to divisionals between relays and individual events. Should be fun to watch in Great Falls on Saturday."
