Beeter Golfers Conclude Season at State C in Great Falls

The Chinook Sugarbeeter Golf team concluded its season this past Wednesday in Great Falls at the Montana Class C Boys and Girls Tournament. Senior Morgan Friede, Senior Ryan Meneely and sophomore Brockton Elliot represented the Sugarbeeters on the links's at the Anaconda Hills Golf Course.

Weather has played a big role this season but the conditions at the State meet were just fine, "It was a beautiful day on the course, the setup was nice, but challenging as well." Friede made her second start at the Class C State Tournament while Meneely and Elliot competed on the big stage of a state tournament for the first time. The team left for Great Falls on Monday and wear able to get a practice round in.

Anaconda Hills is a challenging course with plenty of hills featuring a multitude of elevation changes through the 18 holes. Friede played the course in the first meet of the season. Meenley and Elliot were playing the course for the first time. The Beeters were able to play a practice round Monday afternoon to familiarize themselves with the course.

Friede has been steady through the years and turned in a two-day total of 231 to finish 29th in the field. Friede posted a 108 on day one just out of a medalist position. Elliot turned in a solid performance on day one of the tournament firing off a round of 107. Day two was a bit of a struggle for Elliot as he posted a 124 for a two-day total of 231 good for 41st in the field. Meenley made the most of his state experience, but a difficult course the smallest of mistakes can cost a player strokes. Meneely posted a first-round score of 123 and a day two score of 126 for a two-day total of 249, good for 56th.

Elliots performance at the state tournament is big for the team as he will be the only individual on the team with such knowledge. The 'Beeters will look to build their numbers up in the offseason and seeing Elliot perform well will help a lot with recruitment.

Following the State C Tournament Turner had this to say, "I really enjoyed the experience, the kids were great, and I learned a lot." Turner added, "It certainly was a non-typical season in dealing with so many weather issues but that's goof on the Hi-line and we did the best we could. Everyone else faced the same thing so it is what it is."
