Lions perform well at Scoby Swim Meet Several Records set

The Chinook Lions Swim Team was in Scobey week two and performed very well. The summer swim season is very short so getting in the pool as often as you can is very important. The team continues to get better with each meet and while their numbers in Scobey were small, their performance was impressive.

The Lions had three swimmers capture individual High Point Honors, Daniel Tilleman and Brockton Elliot tied for the Senior (15-19) Boys Individual High Point while Katie Tilleman took home top honors for the 13-14 Intermediate Girls. All three also set new pool records over the weekend as well.

Katie earned her High Point with a dominate swim, first capturing gold in the 50 Meter Freestyle while also establishing a new pool mark with a time of :29.05. Katie also set a new pool record in the 50 Meter Butterfly with a time of :31.75. She secured her third individual title in the 100 Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:13.81.

Daniel Tilleman had himself a heck of a weekend in the Scobey Pool. Saturday Daniel recorded a :25.65 in the 50 Meter Freestyle to shatter the pool record. In Sunday's final, Daniel won gold with a time of :27.26. Tilleman also won the 100 Meter Freestyle, touching the wall in 1:04.30 to win the event. Daniel locked up his High Point with a first place finish in the grueling 400 Meter Freestyle completing the 8 laps in 5:47.84.

Brockton Elliot is a Butterfly master and proved it once again in Scobey by winning both the 50 Meter and 100 Meter races in convincing fashion. Brockton recorded a time of :29.17 in the 50 Meter race and a time of 1:10.38 to win the 200 Meter Race. Elliot began the weekend by winning the 200 Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:44.38.

Colter Matkin had a solid swim for the Lions in Scobey. He scored a first place finish in the 15-19 100 Meter Backstroke, completing the race in 1:20.80. Matkin also finished second in the 50 Meter Freestyle with an effort of :27.69. Matkin completed his swim with a second place finish in the 100 Meter Freestyle touching in 1:07.37.

Senior Clara Laird added a third place finish in the 100 Meter Butterfly, completing the race in 1:37.21. In the 11-12 boys division Gunner Lenz took home second in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of :36.82 and a third place finish in the 200 Meter Freestyle, finishing in 3:20.05.

The mixed relays have proven to be very exciting while also giving those teams who lack numbers on either the girls or boys side to compete in a relay by allowing two boys and two girls to make up a team. The Lions have been highly successful in the mixed relay events, setting a number of records a season ago.

This year they are back at it again with pool records set in both the Mixed Medley and Mixed Freestyle relay events. In the Medley Relay Colter Matkin, Ivey Lenz, Clara Laird and Daniel Tilleman took home gold with a time of 2:34.17. In the Freestyle Rely it was Colter Matkin, Daniel Tilleman, Clara Laird and Ivey Lenz winning with a time of 2:02.43.
